Parent - Student Policy Signature Form
Accelerated Independent Study Policies--Reuther Central High School
This sheet must be read and signed by both the student and parent/guardian. The bottom portion must be returned; the top portion should be kept at home for future reference.
Each quarter, students will be assigned courses and credits they need to complete for that quarter to ensure graduating on time with their cohort. Students are expected to earn at least one and one-half, (1.5) credits per quarter to be in compliance with AIS expectations. (Q 2=3 credits; Q 3=4.5 credits; Q 4=6 credits)
AIS students are required to hold a paid job for 15 hours per week or to do volunteer work or tutor for five hours per week. Check stubs or work verification forms must be brought in on a regular basis. If proof of work experience is not provided by student at the beginning of the school year, student will be placed in a Learn a Living class that meets for 45 minutes prior to the student’s regular AIS class, until proof of work is documented. Students who are taking, and passing an extra class, or who are taking Youth Options classes, are exempt from the work requirement.
Attendance
1. Students in morning AIS must attend from 8:30 am until 12:00 am five days a week. Students in afternoon AIS must attend from 12:00 pm until 3:30 pm five days per week. Students in evening AIS must attend from 4:45 pm until 8:00 pm four days (M-Th) per week. All students in AIS must attend with an attendance rate no lower than 90% to earn credits. Students in the morning AIS session who are at 90% and on time may be released at 11:30 am. Students in the afternoon AIS session who are at 90% and on time may be released at 3:00 pm.
2. Students who are below 90% on final exam days will not be allowed to test or earn credit. To earn credits not requiring final exams, students must have 90% attendance by the end of the quarter.
3. Only students who have a valid doctor’s excuse stating they cannot be in school will be allowed to make up time at home. Time missed due to doctor’s appointments, religious holidays and other obligations will be made up in class.
Parents must call the main office (359-6160 or 359-6138) to inform the school of a student’s excused absence or the student will be considered truant.
Behavior
1. Students must be engaged in work leading to the earning of credits at all times. Students are expected to adhere to all policies in the Reuther Central High School Handbook and AIS policies and procedures. Behavior which is disruptive and/or unproductive (that is, interfering with or delaying the earning of credits) will not be tolerated. Students engaged in inappropriate behavior(s) will be asked to leave immediately, after the parent/guardian is contacted. Time missed will have to be made up. If student is sent home for one of the above reasons, or refuses to remain until the end of the posted session, a parent/guardian must return with student for reinstatement to the lab.
2. Repeated behavior problems will result in dismissal from AIS. Cheating, damage to equipment and unauthorized use of computers are grounds for immediate dismissal from AIS.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to call the AIS lab if there are any questions (Room 236 at 359-7556; Room 240 at 359-7529; Room 242 at 359-7727; Room 244 at 359-7627; Room 246 at 359-6105; Room 248 Work Liaison 359-7912;
