Parent - Student Policy Signature Form
Academic and Work Experience Requirements
Each quarter students will determine, with teacher
guidance, what credits they will earn that quarter. Students are expected to
earn at least one and one-half credits per quarter to be in compliance with AIS
expectations.
AIS students are required to hold a paid job for 15
hours per week or to do volunteer work or tutor for five hours per week. Check
stubs or work verification forms must be brought in on a regular basis. If
proof of work experience is not provided by the end of the student’s first
quarter in AIS, or if the student does not regularly bring in check stubs or
work verification forms, he/she will no longer be allowed to accelerate until
proof of work experience is established.
Students who are taking, and passing an extra class, or who are taking
Youth Options classes, are exempt from this requirement.
Attendance
- Students
in morning AIS must attend from 8:30 am until 12:00 am five days a week. Students in afternoon AIS must attend from

90% attendance by the end of the quarter.
- Only students who have a valid doctor’s excuse
stating they cannot be in school will be allowed to make up time at home. Time
missed due to doctor’s appointments,religious
holidays and other obligations will be made up in class.
Parents must call the main
office (653-6160 or 653-6138) to inform the school of a student’s excused
absence or the student will be considered truant.
Behavior
- Students
must be engaged in work leading to the earning of credits at all times. Behavior which is disruptive and/or
unproductive (that is, interfering with or delaying the earning of credits)
will not be tolerated. Students engaged
in these behaviors will be asked to leave immediately, after the
parent/guardian is contacted. Time
missed will have to be made up.
If student is sent home for
one of the above reasons, or refuses to remain until the end of the posted
session, a parent/guardian must return with student for reinstatement to the
lab.
- Repeated
behavior problems will result in dismissal from AIS. Cheating, damage to
equipment and unauthorized use of computers are grounds for immediate dismissal
from AIS.
