Infant/Child Learning Lab

General policies

Hours follow the school schedule; the infant lab is available To All KUSD High School Students.
Applications must be submitted and applicant will be put on a waiting list.

ALL School District policies will be adhered to at all times.

The Infant Lab is operated on a non-discriminatory basis, according equaltreatment andaccess to services without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin or ancestry.

The staff will answer all questions you might have concerning your child. No question is unimportant; feel free to ask.

All suspected child abuse must be reported. If at any time you need information on child abuse reporting, please ask for help.

WHAT TO BRING

ALL babies must have the following LABELED supplies:

  1. 1 LABELED bag (diaper bag, backpack or just a bag
  2. 1 LABELED clothing change brought weekly, including socks & underwear
  3. 1 LABELED lightweight or heavyweight blanket
  4. 6 LABELED disposable diapers daily
  5. LABELED personal items for your baby - pacifiers, lotions, diaper rash ointment, etc.

WHAT’S ACCEPTABLE

  1. you receive credit towards graduation when you do your internship (three weeks with each age)
  2. staff is state certified in child care
  3. attendance awards are given - 90% attendance is a requirement
  4. “calm time”, redirection, baby proofing and praise are the

    disciplines allowed. No hitting or spanking of children
  5. all babies are to be held while being fed - BOTTLES ARE NOT TO BE PROPPED
  6. peek in the door       
  7. rocking chairs are to be used with a baby in arms

For the safety of all the children:

  1. leave baby jewelry (i.e., necklaces, rings), barrettes, beads and earrings at home
  2. leave gum, pop, or junk food in the Infant Lab Office
  3. leave friends and family in the hallway
  4. shoes are required on the child once s/he starts pulling him/herself to a stand

Students “pay” for child care by enrolling in the Infant Lab Internship or a parenting class. Students are volunteers in the Infant Lab and must work with all the babies. The parent and lab staff will share
experiences on a day-to-day basis. The lab staff will respect your reasonable requests in caring for your child whenever possible.
