A district program for all high school teens located at Reuther Central High School, 913 57th Street, Kenosha, WI
History
The Infant Lab was started in 1981 as a joint project for Kenosha County and Kenosha Unified Schools, though originally there was a capacity for 12 babies/toddlers, there is now a capacity for 32 babies/toddlers.
What is the Infant Lab?
The Infant Lab is a free service for all high school teen parents, which operates on the school district calendar. There is individual attention and love provided to each baby/toddler, hot lunch to the toddlers, a part-time Nurse, individual bibs, cribs with sheets, staff both Tot Saver CPR and state certified.
Who may enroll?
Parenting instruction for school-age parents and non-parenting students with child, age 2 weeks-3 years, in diapering, nutrition, discipline, health and safety measures, and play is provided in a safe educational environment.
- An elective credit is earned in Family and Consumer Ed (1/2 credit per quarter) is given if Infant Lab class is taken.
How to enroll and attend:
- Prerequisites include:
- Written application for Infant Lab placement
- Interview with teen’s parent/guardian and teacher coordinator.
- Authorization process at Job Center located in Old Market Square 8600 Sheridan Rd. 697-4500 (map)
- Teen parents may apply at any time to place their child in the Infant Lab and need to take a parenting class in order to have their child in the program.
